Immersive Visualization / IQ-Station Wiki

This site hosts information on virtual reality systems that are geared toward scientific visualization, and as such often toward VR on Linux-based systems. Thus, pages here cover various software (and sometimes hardware) technologies that enable virtual reality operation on Linux.

The original IQ-station effort was to create low-cost (for the time) VR systems making use of 3DTV displays to produce CAVE/Fishtank-style VR displays. That effort pre-dated the rise of the consumer HMD VR systems, however, the realm of midrange-cost large-fishtank systems is still important, and has transitioned from 3DTV-based systems to short-throw projectors.

Virtual Reality Experiences

This is a list of VR experiences ("Applications") that demonstrate a particular usage of virtual reality. These might be tools for the creation of three dimensional spaces, or for the training of a particular task, or for providing the user with an entertaining escape from physical reality.

The "experiences" listed here have been vetted by one or more members of the Indiana University Advanced Visualization Lab (AVL). We have also categorized them into groups of related experiences.

Many of these experiences are available for free (usually on the Steam store), others require a payment (generally one-time) for use. Several of the AVL steam accounts have paid-for experiences available. For some experiences (such as Google's "Tilt Brush"), the experience was paid for and is available on most of the Steam accounts. Other experiences are available only on one or two of the accounts.

Notes:

  • We'll start with just some lists, and expand the descriptions and include images

as we go along.

  • When possible, we will link to related material for these experiences such as the

Steam Store entry, and possible third party reviews.
